Today, May 8th, marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, the day towards the end of World War II when fighting against Nazi Germany came to an end in Europe. It’s important to understand history. Especially our LGBTQ+ history. Just as the Nazis forced Jewish people to wear a yellow Star of David, they forced people they labeled as gay to wear inverted pink triangles. Many “perceived” as gay were tortured, castrated, or killed at the hands of the Nazi regime. It’s important to know how and why that triangle has been reclaimed.
