Since 2018, PFLAG has played an important part of my journey as a parent of two wonderful and beautiful LGBTQ+ children. Many aspects of parenting I just figured out along the way, but I knew I needed some guidance on how to navigate this area. Through PFLAG’s support meetings and educational events, I have gained a clearer insight into what my children need from me as their parent and how to be their biggest ally. I’m a high school teacher and now an ally to my students as well. These days I consider myself an expert novice as my knowledge and understanding have grown quite a bit since my first PFLAG meeting, but I know that I am ever learning more! As for our PFLAG teen support group, my youngest gained a sense of belonging that she couldn’t find at school and some really great friends by attending the meetings. I became a facilitator simply because I wanted to give back to a group that has given so much to my family. I look forward to our monthly meetings and I hope to see you there!
