No food or drink allowed due to kosher facility. PFLAG Johns Creek is here for you! Providing free and confidential support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people, and their parents, families, and friends in the North Atlanta metro area. PFLAG Johns Creek support groups meet on the first Tuesday of each and every month at the PERIMETER location. We have two separate groups, each led by PFLAG trained facilitators, and each room has a sign identifying which group is meeting in that room. Choose the group that is best for you: TEENS (Room A) – Support/discussion for LGBTQ teens and their teen friends/allies. 8th grade and up, minimum age 13. Today is #transgenderdayofremembrance. Today is a day that we remember those folks and their names. Most of those who were lost were trans women of color. In support—and in honor of TDOR—PFLAG chapters across the country are sharing the names of the transgender and gender-expansive people in the United States whose lives were tragically taken by violence in 2019. As of November 20th, 29 transgender and gender-expansive people have been murdered, including one who was killed several years ago but was only identified this year. PFLAG’s renewed commitment to transgender and gender-expansive people was recently announced in a new policy statement decrying the epidemic of violence and discrimination against transgender people, especially Black transgender women, and recommitting to taking significant action in support of the trans community. “We must fight for non-violence and non-discrimination, strive to create an inclusive society, and continuously advocate for trans people of color in every aspect of their lives (i.e. health, work, relationships and home). We must seek accountability for those who do harm against trans women of color due to transphobia, racism, and misogyny. Let us all boldly show our love and support and give more attention to the leadership, wellness, and livelihood of those most impacted by this epidemic. WHEN: Tuesday, November 19, 2019 7pm – 8:30pm WHERE: Johns Creek United Methodist Church 11180 Medlock Bridge Road Johns Creek, GA 30097 (3rd Floor) Helping your transgender child transition socially, physically, and emotionally. We will have a panel of speakers to discuss this subject from several perspectives: 1. Mick Rehrig, LCSW, counselor specializing in LGBTQ+ people 2. Jeannie Senter, advocate for safe schools 3. Kris Janovitz, transitional coach, mom of transgender daughter 4. A mom of a transgender son PLEASE NOTE: Our regular scheduled meetings will meet as usual during the education event for those who need support or wish not to attend the education event. TWEENS (Room 323) – A special safe space for LGBTQ+ tweens (4th-7th grade; ages 9-13) to socialize with other tweens.
