SPECIAL EDUCATION EVENT: Substance Use and Substance Use Disorder in the LGBTQ+ Community AND JOHNS CREEK Location Support Group Meetings WHEN: Tuesday, August 20, 2019 7 – 8:30 PM WHERE: Johns Creek United Methodist Church 11180 Medlock Bridge Road Johns Creek, GA 30097 SPECIAL EDUCATION EVENT: FAMILY/FRIENDS (3rd floor – Dining Hall) The family/friends room will have a panel of parents who have experience dealing with LGBTQ+ loved ones and substance abuse. Christine Wolff, LPC, ST, guest moderator, will be present to fill in gaps in our understanding from her professional experience and guide the conversation as needed. TEENS (Room 322) The teen room will feature a panel of adult members of the LGBTQ+ community who are in recovery from substance use disorder. These adults have graciously agreed to meet with our teens and share their stories to help the teens understand better the risks and prevention strategies associated with substance use. All teens will be in this room, there will be no separate support group room for teens. Melissa Goldstein, LPC, NCC, guest moderator, will be there to guide the discussion as needed and to fill in the gaps in our understanding of this complex topic. REGULAR SCHEDULED SUPPORT GROUPS: Our regular scheduled meetings for family/friends, adult LGBTQ+ people, and tweens will meet as usual during the education event for those who need support or wish not to attend the education event.
