Attention Parents of Transgender Youth: Georgia State Representative Ginny Ehrhart, R-Powder Springs, has announced she will introduce legislation that would make it a felony to provide a transgender child (under 18) the medical care they need to transition. This would include surgery and medications, including hormone therapy or puberty blocking therapy. She plans to introduce her “Vulnerable Child Protection Act,” in the Georgia General Assembly. Her press release specified that this was about children who are being abused by adults. This proposal was littered with misinformation and false claims. Please see our response http://bit.ly/2QirqmK. In an effort to educate legislators, PFLAG Johns Creek is working diligently with Georgia Equality and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Both of these fine organizations have vast experience in the political process in Georgia. Here is how we can best help them help our youth: We need parents of transgender youth to write moving stories of their experience. These do not need to be long, but should be heartfelt. These stories will then be put together to form a real life view for law makers in how this proposal would affect families. You do not need to quote talking points, nor do you have to disclose personal information such as your name. We are simply wanting real people who can articulate their journey. Please email all testimonials to: pflagjohnscreek@gmail.com. We will forward them on. Again, you may be undisclosed if you wish and pictures are not necessary.
